Irish TV need NOT Apply

One of the best shows on TV is Copper!  It's on BBC America and it's about Irish Immigrants in NYC in the 1850's.  As you can imagine, it's not a pleasant sight!  It's one of the two shows on TV that have IRISH story lines and culture.  Ray Donovan is the other show on Showtime and it's excellent!!!  BBC had excellent ratings for Copper and they decided to cancel it!!!  I am without speech!!  I mean Really???  With millions of people claiming Irish descent and one show left on TV about the Irish??? WHY?  When I win the lottery ....IRISH TV NEEDS TO APPLY!!!

Monday Madness

What are the odds that BOTH my Mom and my great aunts mtdna test from FTDNA are returned for a do over?  Huh????  Since May, I have been checking the progress each test was making and waiting  quite breathlessly for the results.  My mothers was returned and they said hers would go to the top of the list to be done ASAP.  How does Nov. 7 sound when I checked her progress???  NOT!  First off, it was not easy to find their phone number and when I did they had the nerve of charging for the call! Not even a 800 number.  My Mom called and they told her she would go to the top of the ASAP list.  Also we would get a 25.00 credit for a future purchase.  We also asked about the very slow progress on my Aunt Frances test and were told she was also a do over!!!!  They will send it back to the Nursing home and the waiting will start all over again for the family.  NOT very happy with Family Tree DNA right now.  I mean REALLY????  Both tests?  25.00 will NOT cover my heartbreak and wasted time on 2 bum tests with no results.

Marriage at City Hall NYC 1895

DayGENE Believer

November 1895 my g grandparents Raffaele Gelso and Carmella Chiafullo were married at the Justice of the Peace in NYC.  She was not with child because the dates of her first born don't add up.  Unless of course she miscarried or the child died young.  I only add that because 25 years later they were married by the Church formally.  My puzzle is the names of the parents.  WHY would Raffaele's parents not have the last name Gelso?  WHY does Carmella's parents have the last name of Fasano too?  It's supposed to be Chiafullo?  I have seen mistakes in documents before but this baffles my mind that So many errors were present.  Her sister, the Very mysterious Francesca Strollo, was a witness and this is the very last clue we have of her.  No one has ever met her and I have many cousins out there that no nothing about our family and visa versa.  She was disowned by the family for some reason and this signature is the only proof I have she existed. The brick walls continue...

Sunday's Obituary

The Red Bank NJ Public Library is a wonderful source of  newspapers for free.  This is where I found my Great Grandfather Raffaelle Gelso's Obit at 56 years old.  Born in 1868 in Italy and died in 1924 leaving behind 9 children and my GGrandmother Carmella Chiafullo Gelso.  Little is known about Raffelle.  Most non Italians could not pronounce Raffaelle so they called him RUFUS.
