Sunday's Obituary

The Red Bank NJ Public Library is a wonderful source of  newspapers for free.  This is where I found my Great Grandfather Raffaelle Gelso's Obit at 56 years old.  Born in 1868 in Italy and died in 1924 leaving behind 9 children and my GGrandmother Carmella Chiafullo Gelso.  Little is known about Raffelle.  Most non Italians could not pronounce Raffaelle so they called him RUFUS.

FUNERAL CARD FRIDAY

My G Grandmother Emila Mantavoni's funeral card...way too young to die.  I just love the little girl with the dove on her hand.  It's one of the few I have seen with a picture like this.

Military Mondays

This picture from the 40's is my cousin Nichol Chiafullo and Anthony Cammarano.  Since most of the men of the family were away fighting in the 1940's these may have been some sort of replica uniform for children.  Any ideas or comments?

Thankful Thursday

I am so thankful for my Cousin Ralph Gelso.  We are very much alike and he is my best buddy as well as a cousin.  He is from a long line of Gelso confirmed bachelors and the ONLY male to carry on the name.  He was handed down all of the family documents and I am so happy he is a hoarder and never throws anything away.  Also, he actually is interested in Genealogy and helps me do research.  I just wish he would take the DNA test for the females so we could find out more out the mysterious Raffaelle Gelso.  HINT HINT RALPH!  Hats off to Ralph ...my cousin and friend!

Talented Tuesday

DayGENE Believer
This is My Best friend and mother Amelia Grandinetti Sullivan.  Her TALENT was being a single parent and giving me the best of everything while working 2 jobs her whole life.  My father, God rest his soul, was never around and I was raised by my Mom, my grandparents and elder aunts and uncles who watched me after school till my mom came home from work. I was an only child and my Italian family was very close and was always there for our family.  I love oldies music because that is what Mom listened to. I remember every show my aunts, uncles and grandparents watched on TV and listened to on the radio.  Mom, you have an amazing TALENT of being a wonderful person and so happy that you have passed your GENES to me.
